A dissertation of significant exceptional merit may be accepted with distinction if all three committee members give the dissertation and the oral defense perfect evaluations. If that occurs, then the program leadership, the program director and the department chair, review the materials. If they agree the student’s dissertation is then accepted with distinction and that is noted on the student’s transcript.
